he Jakarta Police arrested 567 people in raids across the city on Saturday and Sunday, 80 of whom had been detained, a police spokesperson said on Monday.
Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul said the raids were part of Jakarta Police's Operation Cipta Kondisi aimed at maintaining security in the capital. He said that during the raids the police also seized methamphetamine, marijuana and other types of narcotics.
'We confiscated methamphetamine packages, marijuana and pills,' Martinus told reporters at the Jakarta Police headquarters on Monday.
According to him, most of the 567 people were not charged under the Criminal Code but were brought in to receive 'character development' for petty crimes, such as traffic violations.
Martinus added that the police netted 368 people in North Jakarta municipality alone and 55 of them would be charged with crimes.
