he South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi offices of State Logistics Agency (Bulog) distributed on Wednesday rice for the poor (raskin) following an increase in rice prices over the past week. The 300,000 tons of raskin rice distributed on Wednesday was for the month of January and February for 484,617 very poor families living in 23 regencies and cities in South Sulawesi.
Recipient Daeng Ani, 49, of Panakkukang district, Makassar, said on Wednesday that receiving raskin was very helpful, especially now when the price of rice had escalated.
Each of the families received a 15-kilogram bag of raskin worth just Rp 28,000 (US$2.15).
'This is very helpful, because the price of rice has increased from Rp 7,000 to Rp 8,000 per liter. We use two liters of rice daily for six family members,' said Ani.
