NasDem faction to retract support for inquiry into Ahok

N

asDem Party leadership has instructed its faction at the Jakarta legislative council to retract its support for the ongoing political inquiry into the alleged submission of a fake draft budget to the Home Ministry.

'€œPrincipally, the inquiry rights belong to the legislative council. But the issue has been reported by the governor to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and therefore the party'€™s executive board instructs the NasDem faction to retract its support for the inquiry and quit the investigative committee,'€ NasDem Secretary General Patrice Rio Capella said on Monday.

Patrice said his party would disagree if the City Council allocated Rp 12.1 trillion (US$98 million) to finance unimportant programs, including the planned procurement of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) device for 55 schools worth Rp 330 billion. According to him, it is better for the city administration to use the budget allocation to finance programs benefitting Jakarta residents such as renovating school buildings and flood mitigation projects.

Patrice also said his party made an apology to the public in Jakarta for the political row between the governor and the City Council, including the NasDem faction.

'€œFor the incident, which has triggered the political row between the governor and the City Council, we apologize for the public service suspension and slowing of development programs caused by the political row,'€ he said.

He also said his party has urged Home Minister Tjahjo Kumolo consult with the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) and the Attorney General'€™s Office to approve the routine expenditures in the draft budget so that all civil servants and councilors receive their monthly wages. (rms)
