akarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama should have written a letter to the Jakarta City Council after finding dubious items in the draft 2015 city budget, instead of dispatching one to the Home Ministry, an observer has said.
Economic public policy observer Ichsanudin Noorsy said that by sending the draft 2015 city budget that was not endorsed by the City Council, Ahok had only created tension with the councilors.
"I am talking about administration and about knowledgeable, wise leadership," Ichsanudin told a discussion on the budget feud on Saturday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
"He [Ahok] should not have sent [the budget] to the Home Ministry but should have returned it to the City Council."
Ichsanudin said Ahok could have told the City Council that he had found a dubious figure of Rp 12.1 trillion and required further discussion.
"If Ahok had took such a wise move, there would have been goodwill to find the real culprit behind those dubious items, whether it was the City Council or the city agencies," he said. "Therefore, Ahok would not have been confronting both the City Council and agencies."
By confronting both parties, Ichsanudin said Ahok had not used his authority effectively.
"Like it or not, Ahok's method has created a problem," he said. (nvn)(++++)
