egional Representatives Council (DPD) Speaker Irman Gusman has urged the government to expedite the construction of a nuclear power plant in Bangka Belitung province.
'This province is a suitable and safe place for a nuclear power plant and it is therefore necessary for the government to start construction of the power plant to meet the energy demands of the local community,' Irman said during a visit to the province on Saturday.
Irman said that nuclear energy was a safe alternative and was used in a number of countries, such as South Korea and Great Britain.
He said that Indonesian was late in developing the energy resource.
