F

rench death-row convict Serge Arezki Atlaoui is scheduled to attend a second case-review hearing at the Tangerang District Court on Wednesday, a court official has said.

'€œHe will be present at the hearing tomorrow,'€ said Hendra Eka Putranto, warden of Pasir Putih Penitentiary at the Nusakambangan prison island, as quoted by Antara in Cilacap, Central Java, on Tuesday.

Atlaoui was reported to have departed to Tangerang from Nusakambangan at around 7 p.m. local time, accompanied by his family and under a security escort from the National Police. Among the family members present were Atlaoui'€™s wife, Sabine Megel Atlaoui, and their three children, Alexandre Ferdinand Megel, Samia Ans Eliane Atlaoui and Yasen Areski Atlaoui.

Hendra said that Nusakambagan authorities gave Atlaoui a two-day permit to attend the second case-review hearing.

Responding to journalist's questions on the condition of death-row inmate Rodrigo Gularte, who is reported to have schizophrenia, Hendra said a team of doctors from the Cental Java Police and the Attorney General'€™s Office (AGO) had conducted a medical examination on the Brazilian citizen.

'€œThe examination was conducted around two or three days ago. We are waiting for the results,'€ he said.

Hendra also played down speculation that Gularte would be taken to a hospital, saying the death-row inmate claimed he was in good health.

'€œHe feels he is healthy. There's no problem,'€ he said.

Another death-row convict from Palembang, South Sumatra, Zainal Abidin, is reported to have filed a second case-review with the Palembang District Court. (ebf)(++++)
