Former Miss Indonesia Kristania Virginia Besouw has traded her tiara for a combat helmet, enlisting in the US Army, kapanlagi.com reported.
Kristy, who won the crown at the beauty contest representing North Sulawesi in 2006, posted several photographs of herself in camouflage fatigues to her Instagram account.
In tags posted with the photos, the Manado-born beauty wrote #armystrongand #proud.
Kristy had been studying economics at Sam Ratulangi University in Manado before her marriage to a Filipino medical student and moving to the US on a student visa.
The 29-year-old has enlisted in a program to become a nurse that will open the door for her to become a US citizen.
