epresentatives from 17 countries would take part in the sixth Maritime Security Desktop Exercise in Yogyakarta next week, an official said on Wednesday.
Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) spokesperson Col. Edi Fernandi said the joint exercise, scheduled to take place from March 30 until April 1, was aimed at intensifying cooperation in maritime-resource protection and to strengthen coordination against crimes in Asian and Australian waters.
'The increasing number of maritime crimes worldwide has driven countries to take preventative measures in their respective regions,' Edi said as quoted by Antara news agency, adding that the exercise is being organized by the Bakamla and the Australian Border Protection Service.
The 17 participating countries are Australia, Sri Lanka, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Maldives, Pakistan, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Brunei.(idk)(+++)
