BMW Group Indonesia launched its Series 2 Active Tourer premium compact car on Thursday, marking BMW's entry into the premium multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment of the Indonesian market.
The group's president director, Karen Lim, described the Active Tourer as the first BMW vehicle to offer a 'compact and sleek outer design yet spacious and flexible interior'. It is also the company's first car to be placed in the 'premium compact car' segment.
'With its flexibility and unique concept, the BMW Active Tourer is the ideal vehicle for those living an active lifestyle that requires spacious room and flexibility in their vehicles,' Karen told reporters at the vehicle's media-launch event on Thursday.
The 218i Luxury will be the first model sold in Indonesia.
She added that by introducing the new model, BMW was convinced it would be able to attract more Indonesian customers. The elegant design, powerful three cylinder 1,499 cc engine and efficient energy usage of 20 km/per liter, Karen said, were the car's primary appeals.
Consumers in Indonesia will be able to purchase the Active Tourer during an upcoming BMW consumer-launch event on April 17 to 19, with an off-the-road price tag of Rp619 million [US$47,738].
The BMW Series 2 Active Tourer was launched worldwide in 2014 at the 84th Geneva International Motor Show. (++++)
