he Supreme Court revealed on Thursday that it had decided to reject a second case review petition filed by Philippine national Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso, a death row drug convict due to be executed.
A panel of three justices, comprising Timur Manurung, Andi Samsan Nganro and Mohammad Saleh, ruled on Wednesday that Veloso's petition failed to meet the requirements of a case review as stipulated in the Criminal Law Procedures Code.
"The argument [of the bench] is that the petition fails to meet the requirements of a case review," justice Suhadi told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
A case review can only be considered if new evidence or conflicting facts are found, or judges are found to have made mistakes in applying the law.
The implementation of her execution was now in the hands of the Attorney General's Office, said Suhadi.(+++)
