AKASSAR: The Association of Indonesian Advocates (Peradin) national congress in Makassar, South Sulawesi, was marred by prolonged interruptions, with the plenary session unable to be held on Friday.
The plenary session should have started on Thursday evening after being opened by Coordinating Political, Legal & Security Affairs Minister Tedjo Edhi Purdjiatno. On Friday morning, with the session about to begin, a commotion occurred and the organizing committee postponed proceedings until 2 p.m. However, as the meeting was set to restart, another commotion broke out.
Peradi chairman Otto Hasibuan and committee members left the room as they deemed many participants did not have name tags from the organizers.
The commotion broke out as some participants wanted voting in the congress to be carried out using a one man, one vote system, while others wanted a representative system via branch executive boards.
