resident Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo met with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte for a short bilateral talk in Sanya, China, on Friday evening ahead of the 2015 Boao Forum for Asia summit.
The meeting reportedly lasted for 20 minutes with the two leaders discussing plans to further continue several projects agreed by the two nations.
'We were mostly discussing our desire to increase exports to Europe because most of our European exports go through the Netherlands,' Jokowi told reporters on Friday as reported by Antara news agency.
He added that Indonesia wants to significantly increase trade to Europe, for example in palm oil exports, which has mostly gone through the Netherlands and make that country the main trade gateway to Europe.
Other topics of discussion included improving the perception of the safety of Indonesian airlines, as the Netherlands had become instrumental in letting Indonesian flights back into Europe.
Also, discussions on the planned, Netherlands-assisted giant sea wall project for Jakarta were conducted, with Jokowi urging his counterpart to continue the planning process so that the concrete vision can be realized.
Jokowi was flanked by several officials during the meeting, including Coordinating Economic Minister Sofyan Djalil, Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi, Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel, Investment Coordination Board chief Franky Sibarani and Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto.
Jokowi will be a key speaker at the Boao Forum. (dyl/nvn) (*****)
