T

he Indonesian Army said Saturday it has identified the individuals responsible for the abduction and subsequent murder of two soldiers in Nisam, North Aceh.

Army spokesperson Brig. Gen. Wuryanto told The Jakarta Post the killers were currently on the run. '€œWe received plenty of information from the villagers. A joint investigation between the Indonesian Military (TNI) and police had managed to identify the killers and the team is now going after them,'€ he said.

Wuryanto indicated that from the information gathered, the killers were likely former members of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM). '€œGAM has been disbanded. It could be the remainders of its members. However, we don'€™t want to draw our conclusions yet, as we must still try to find them first and then give the information to the public,'€ he said.

On Tuesday, two abducted Army personnel, First Sgt. Indra and Second Sgt. Hendri, were found dead in Alue Mbang village, Nisam Antara subdistrict, North Aceh. Indra and Hendri were abducted on Monday while they were gathering intelligence on the armed Din Minimi group. Din Minimi is made up of former GAM members who are now fighting against the Aceh government.

Analysts earlier said that terrorists were likely responsible for the murders.
