hree girls died on Friday, allegedly because of over-heating when playing inside a broken-down car in their neighborhood in Muara Karang in Penjaringan, North Jakarta.
The three girls, identified as 5-year-old Rani Sapitri, 4-year-old Hana and 5-year-old Naipah, were playing in an unused Peugeot car parked on a field near their home.
Penjaringan Police Criminal Unit head Adj. Comr. Bungin Misalayuk said that according to the police's preliminary investigation, the girls had entered the car to play, but they did not know how to open the doors from the inside.
'Our tentative conclusion is that they died in the car because of dehydration. However, we will keep investigating the matter,' Bungin said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Kamila, Rani's mother, said the girls went out to play at 8 a.m. When they did not return home by 1 p.m., Kamila said she panicked and began to search for them only to find the three girls in a critical condition in the back seat of the car.
