T

wo residents in Tangerang, Banten, allegedly died of the avian influenza H5N1 last week, an official has said.

The head of the Tangerang Food Resilience and Agriculture Agency, Iis Aisyah Rodiyah, said the residents were a 40-year-old man, identified as N, and his 2-year-old child, identified as M.

'€œN died on March 25, while M died on the following day. Both have been buried,'€ Iis said as reported by tribunnews.com. The two were believed to have been exposed to poultry infected with the avian flu.

Although there was no official health investigation, Iis said her agency would take measures to prevent the spread of the avian flu by inspecting traditional markets and cleaning certain areas in the city.
