bout 2,000 members of Pagar Nusa martial arts group, which is affiliated to Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), vowed in Semarang on Sunday to reject the Islamic State (IS) movement.
Led by NU deputy chairman As'ad Ali, the participants pledged to defend the unitary state of Indonesia against any disturbance, such as radicalism and terrorism, including IS, which is gaining a following in the country.
The event was also attended by Indonesian Military (TNI) territorial assistant Maj. Gen. Ngakan Gede Sugiartha Garjitha, who read out a statement by TNI chief Gen. Moeldoko.
Pagar Nusa chairman Nusa Aizzudin Abdurrahman said the group's declaration was a pledge of loyalty to the state. 'We also try to uphold a peaceful and tolerant Islam in Indonesia and reject radicalism and terrorism.'
