quake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted Gorontalo province in Sulawesi, following a milder tremor that hit Manokwari, West Papua, hours earlier on Sunday morning.
'It was a strong tremor. My house walls shook,' said Rajeb, a resident of Gorontalo city.
Gorontalo Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the quake's epicenter at 111 kilometers beneath the sea, 40 kilometers northwest of Boalemo regency in Gorontalo.
In Manokwari, panicked citizens rushed out of their homes at 3:30 a.m. local time when the magnitude 4.7 quake hit the city.
Manokwari BMKG recorded the epicenter of the quake in the sea some 41 kilometers northwest of Manokwari.
