overnor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama plans to increase the public service obligation (PSO) allocation for public transportation to anticipate fluctuations in the price of fuel.
Ahok told reporters at City Hall on Monday that the administration had difficulties controlling increasing public transportation fares as a result of the fuel-price increase.
'The best solution is putting all public transportation, like buses [and public minivans], under Transjakarta's management,' he said.
'We are now allocating Rp 1.3 trillion [US$98.8 million] but we can double it,' he said.
The administration has given the PSO to Transjakarta only. The other modes of public transportation are managed by private operators.
On Friday, the central government announced an increase in fuel prices. Premium increased to Rp 7,400 per liter from Rp 6,900 while diesel increased to Rp 6,900 per liter from Rp 6,400.
