National scene: Govt forms team to discuss Badrodin'€™s bid

T

he government will soon form a team to discuss the nomination of National Police deputy chief Comr. Gen. Badrodin Haiti for the role of police chief, which has been challenged at the House of Representatives.

'€œA team will come [to the House]; we will discuss [first] about its [the team'€™s] format,'€ Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno said on Monday at the Presidential Palace.

He said the government expected that the team would start communicating with the House soon after its formation this week.

According to Tedjo, he or other related ministers may be included in the team.

Other than the team, the government has also sent an official letter to explain about the matter to the House.

Most party factions at the House have refused to discuss Badrodin'€™s nomination until President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo provides an official explanation of his recent move to drop Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan'€™s nomination and replace him with Badrodin as the police chief nominee.

Tedjo also said Jokowi himself might come to explain his move to the lawmakers, should it be needed.

'€œIt will be no problem; the President respects the House institution,'€ Tedjo added.
