T

he police nabbed a bogus tax officer, identified as Nasiduhu Manao, 49, as he was asking for money from an automotive dealer on Jl. Palang Merah, Medan, on Tuesday.

'€œThe suspect wore a tax officer'€™s ID and asked for Rp 10 million [US$769] from the dealer,'€ Medan Police chief Comr. Wahyudi said.

Wahyudi said the suspect promised the dealer that he would not audit the company if he was given the money.

Meanwhile, North Sumatra Tax Office head Harta Indra Tarigan said his office had never assigned tax officers to visit taxpayers.

'€œPeople should report to the police if they find people asking for tax at home or offices. It must be a swindle,'€ Tarigan said.
