he police shot dead a man identified as Agustinus Tabuni, 24, believed to be a member of an armed group led by Murib, during a patrol in Jenggernok hamlet, Gome district, Puncak Jaya regency on Tuesday.

'€œDuring the patrol, a joint team of police and military officers saw three men carrying armed weapons. We chased them; two managed to escape while one was shot as he tried to shoot the officers,'€ Papua Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rudolf Patrick said.

He said the police also seized a revolver and ammunition.

Witnessed by local leaders, Patrick said the body of Agustinus was cremated at the scene after being identified.

'€œLocal leaders knew that the body was Agustinus Tabuni who was a member of the Murib group,'€ he said.
