ocal carrier Sriwijaya Air will add extra flights to Pangkalpinang, the capital of Bangka-Belitung Islands province, in the lead-up to the Chinese ritual of Ceng Beng, where people pray at their family members' graves as well as tidy them.
The medium-service airline's senior manager for corporate communications, Agus Soedjono, said that Sriwijaya would add extra flights between April 2 and April 6 from Jakarta to Pangkalpinang, increasing flight frequency from the normal eight times daily to 10 times daily.
The additional flights will provide 2,400 extra seats during the period.
'The additional flights are in anticipation of passengers that will celebrate Ceng Beng in Pangkalpinang. It is a sign of Sriwijaya Air's commitment to fulfilling the needs of its customers,' Agus said in a statement on Tuesday.
He added that the effort was a flexible response, saying that more flights would be added if the need arose beyond the initial increase of flights. Ceng Beng, or the Qing Ming Festival, is observed on the first day of the fifth solar term of the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar, corresponding with April 4 or 5.
