he Bali Police plan to deploy 1,000 officers to secure the fourth congress for the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) to be held on April 9-12 at the Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel in Sanur, Denpasar.
'We will deploy 1,000 personnel to secure the PDI-P congress. The personnel will come from the Bali Police, Denpasar City Police and from police forces bordering with other provinces like Jembrana Police and Karangasem Police,' Bali Police chief Insp. Gen. Ronny F. Sompie said in Denpasar on Saturday as quoted by kompas.com.
Jembrana Police will secure the west entrance gate and Karangasem Police will guard the east entrance gate.
The Bali Police are also coordinating with the Indonesian Military (TNI), community organizations and pecalang (traditional Balinese security guards) for security assistance at the event. Ronny also claimed that he had coordinated with the congress organizing committees at both the national and regional levels.
Ronny said a roll call of all security components would be held on April 7 followed by a general rehearsal at the congress venue.
He also said security for VIPs would be the responsibility of the PDI-P's internal security team, although the police would still offer some degree of assistance.
Intelligence activities were carried out over the past two weeks to ensure a smooth congress, he added.
'We will also make sure that the tourists won't be disturbed as the congress is being held,' he said. (fsu)
