Slumping approval rating for Jokowi-Kalla: Indo Barometer

A

new Indo Barometer survey shows that public approval of the Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo-Jusuf Kalla administration slumping, standing at only 57.5 percent, though public perception of the presidential institution itself remains high, at 88.3 percent.

'€œFrom the results of the survey it is very clear that immediate measures need to be taken to improve the administration'€™s work performance. There is still a chance [for improvement], as the favorable rating for the presidential institution is still quite high even though public satisfaction in the President is low,'€ Indo Barometer director M. Qodari said as quoted by Antara in Jakarta on Monday.

Conducted from March 13 to March 25, the survey involved 1,200 respondents in 34 provinces, with a margin of error of 3 percent and a trust level of 95 percent.

Qodari said the survey revealed that the satisfaction rating for Jokowi-Kalla'€™s Cabinet was even lower, at 46.8 percent.

'€œOnly Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti is widely known by the public [32.1 percent] and she is considered to have the best work performance [24.1 percent],'€ said Qodari.

Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Puan Maharani ranked second in terms of popularity, with a 9.6 percent approval rating, followed by Culture and Elementary and Secondary Education Minister Anies Baswedan at 6.5 percent.

Anies ranked second in terms of work performance, with a 3.9 percent approval rating, followed by Puan with 3.4 percent.

Qodari said the survey results were a warning to President Jokowi'€™s administration to immediately improve its work performance.

Commenting on the survey, former coordinating economic minister Rizal Ramli said President Jokowi administration'€™s work performance was disappointing, especially for middle to lower income citizens.

'€œSix months after its inauguration, the Jokowi-Kalla administration has shown a very disappointing work performance for persons of low or middle incomes. They are unhappy, as food commodity prices have continued to soar,'€ he said.

Rizal said the President'€™s ministers, especially those who were in the field of the economy, were incapable.

'€œThey cannot resolve the problems and instead have continued to worsen the situation,'€ he said.

Jokowi'€™s economic ministers were unable to find a formula to cope with the ongoing economic crisis aside from increasing commodity prices, he added. (ebf)
