resident Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo applauded Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri's keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the party's congress in Bali on Thursday.
'Yes, [the speech] was very good,' the President told journalists after attending the congress.
In her opening speech, Megawati reminded the President to fulfil his campaign promises.
'A leader must serve the people. There is nothing more,' said Megawati. She also urged Jokowi and Vice President Jusuf Kalla to respect the mandate the party had given them to be president and vice president.
Jokowi said Megawati's speech was not sarcasm to remind him to build better communications between him and his supporting party.
'We communicate every day. There is no problem. Internal communication is also maintained,' he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Zulkifli Hasan, who also attended the opening ceremony, also applauded Megawati, who criticized the practice of voting in decision-making.
Megawati said in her speech that voting was not part of Indonesian culture and that consensus through deliberation should be maintained and developed because that was part of local culture. (rms)(++++)
