esidents of the capital city have begun their search for tickets for the annual Idul Fitri exodus in July.
Economy class train tickets to several cities on July 10 and July 11 are sold out. Train operator PT KAI opened sales for the dates at midnight on Saturday.
'Economy trains on July 10 and July 11 to Yogyakarta, Malang and Surabaya from Jakarta are fully booked. There are available tickets for July 7 and July 8,' said a ticket officer at Central Jakarta's Tanah Abang Station as quoted by kompas.com.
The new sales system allows passengers to book tickets online through the operator's website, kereta-api.co.id, as well as to make reservations through convenience stores Indomaret and Alfamart.
During the Idul Fitri holiday, which will fall on July 17 and July 18, Muslims in Indonesia traditionally gather with relatives in their hometowns. Millions of those include residents working in Jakarta.
