Newly sworn in National Police chief Gen
ewly sworn in National Police chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti is scheduled speak before all provincial and resort police chiefs on Monday to build solidity within the police force.
He said he would present his vision and mission as the police chief in the hope that all high-ranking police officers at the provincial, regental and municipal levels would make adjustments to improve the police's performance in maintaining security and public order and in law enforcement.
National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Anton Charliyan said the meeting would be also used to welcome Badrodin as the chief.
'The greeting of the new police chief will be conducted in a simple ceremony and more importantly, he is scheduled to deliver a speech on how he wants the police force to develop,' he said
He said Badrodin aimed to strengthen solidity within the police force and improve its professionalism.
Badrodin is also expected to give direction on maintaining security during the upcoming commemoration of the Asian-African Conference in Jakarta and Bandung and elections in a number of areas in December.
Separately, Setara Institute deputy executive director Tigor Naipospos expressed skepticism over Badrodin's commitment to make changes within the police force, saying that Badrodin's appointment as the top cop was apparently aimed at maintaining police leadership continuity.
'Badrodin has been appointed to secure police leadership continuity because he will not lead the police for long,' Antara quoted him as saying. Badrodin reaches retirement age later this year.
He also said the police had no choice but to endorse Badrodin's nomination as it was deemed more realistic than making a new polemic on the cancellation of police chief candidate Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan's inauguration. (rms)(+++)
