UPANG: Two high school students in Kupang city, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), were arrested by the local police after taking the three-day national examinations, for having an abortion.
'The students were apprehended for an alleged abortion and burying a fetus secretly two days before the exams,' said NTT Police chief spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Agus Santosa on Friday.
Agus said detectives from the Oebobo Police, led by Sr. Adj. Benediktus Min, went on Wednesday to the house of one of the suspects and excavated the place where the fetus was buried.
On Thursday, a medical team from the NTT Police Medical Division and Bhayangkara Police Hospital in Kupang conducted an autopsy on the fetus and examinations of the suspects.
A female suspect was arrested together with her boyfriend, who had also finished taking the exams.
From the examinations and investigation, police found that two residents also played a role as traditional midwives who aborted the fetus.
'They are identified as Nona Radja and Martha A. Poruman. They provided the drugs and concoction to the suspects to abort the fetus,' said Agus. The two persons are still undergoing questioning.
