JP/Don

When it comes to books, fashion designer Mel Ahyar will go with those that feature lots of great images.

She said she found it hard to concentrate on finishing a book if it had too many words, thus making it easier for her to fall asleep while reading.

'€œIf the books have no images, my mind will easily wander, so I find myself needing to read one paragraph over and over before I get the point,'€ Mel said.

The graduate of ESMOD fashion school in Paris said for her, books with images offered a better story than books with just words.

'€œBooks that feature images of objects, architecture, sculptures, paintings, illustrations, portraits, or even abstracts allow me to imagine better than a long chain of words,'€ she said.

When she is in the mood to read, she will usually take her time in the morning before she goes to her studio and after her baby goes to sleep.

Mel, who will visit Milan in early May to take part in the Expo Milano, said when she went to bookstores, she would buy books with interesting titles and covers.

'€œI like going to bookstores, browsing books so I can check out whether a book contains too many words or great images,'€ said the designer who will soon launch her second line, Happa, with singer Andien.
