Chinese company Felix Gold planned to build a copper smelter in Timika, Papua, a mining official said on Thursday
Chinese company Felix Gold planned to build a copper smelter in Timika, Papua, a mining official said on Thursday.
Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe signed a cooperation agreement with Felix Gold CEO Bao Dong Bin in China on Thursday, Papua Mining Agency chief Bangun Manurung said in a text message to Antara news agency.
Bangun added that present at the signing were a number of regents whose territories were included in the operational area of the world's largest copper and gold producer, PT Freeport Indonesia.
Before the signing, the Papuan officials inspected the Chinese firm's smelter , which is located in Anhui province.
The Chinese smelter processed some 1,000 tons of concentrate every day.
Bangun, however, said he could not yet reveal the investment needed to build the smelter in Papua.
The Papua administration and Mimika regency administrations have so far prepared a 1,000-hectare plot of land in Poumako, Timika, to build an industrial zone that will include the smelter. (nvn)(+++)
