KPAI backs schools'€™ lawsuit over bikini party

T

he Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) stated on Friday that they would back the planned lawsuit brought by the schools that were mentioned as supporting parties in the invitation to a controversial student party.

Divine Production, the event organizer allegedly behind the "bikini party" event known as '€˜Splash After Class'€™ invited students who had completed their high school final exams to the party via social media.

"Individuals and school managements should report this because we don'€™t want anybody to take advantage of the schools or the students. KPAI will back up the schools as far as the future legal mechanisms go, as the they [the organizers] have violated the law on children protection," said KPAI commissioner Rita Pranawati on Friday during a press conference with the schools.

At least eight of 16 schools in Greater Jakarta mentioned in the invitation were present at the KPAI to meet the summons from the organization to clarify the matter.

They expressed their objection to the schools'€™ names being included in the invitation, as they maintained that they weren'€™t involved in the controversial party, and the commissioner claimed that some were considering filing a lawsuit, including SMA Muhammadiyah 11 private school.

"It has dented our reputation, as well as the whole Muhammadiyah organization. We want the event organizer to apologize in the media and to the school personally. [...] We might file a lawsuit, collectively or individually," said SMA Muhammadiyah 11 principal Slamet Sutopo.

The schools maintained that none of the students from the schools were involved in the party, even though internal investigations would still be conducted.

But the KPAI warned that even if there were students involved, they were merely victims. "As for the children's involvement, we don'€™t punish them, as the children depicted in the video were not aware of the purpose of the video," Rita from the KPAI added. (fsu)(+++)
