hilippine superstar boxer Manny Pacquiao expressed a wish to visit Filipina death row inmate Mary Jane Veloso in her prison in Indonesia after his high-profile fight against Floyd Mayweather.
Pacquiao stated in a Las Vegas press conference that he wanted to visit Indonesia as soon as Monday, after his bout with Mayweather on Saturday, which is the richest boxing match in the sport's history.
Previously, the boxer had delivered a televised plea to President Joko Widodo against the execution of Veloso, who was caught smuggling heroin at Yogyakarta's Adi Sucipto Airport in 2010. In his plea, he called for Asian solidarity to get behind delivering a plea for mercy for Veloso's life.
The execution of Veloso was postponed on Wednesday because of new evidence that is to be presented in a Philippines court.
Pacquiao said he wants to meet Veloso along with several Indonesian officials if he goes through with his plan to visit.
The much-hyped fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather will take place at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena, which has been the venue of some of boxing's most notable matches. (dyl)(+++)
