he police have decided not to pursue an investigation into an accident involving a boy who was sucked into a water channel at a pool at the Grogol Petamburan Sports Center in West Jakarta on Sunday.
The body of the 12-year-old boy, identified as AL, was found on Monday morning after firefighters drained the pool and broke the circulation pipe.
Tanjung Duren Police's detective unit chief Adj. Comr. Maryadi said on Wednesday that the police could not continue the case as no police report had been filed by the victim's family.
'We have received a letter stating that the family and sports center management have reached an amicable settlement,' he said, adding that the management had agreed to compensate the victim's family.
West Jakarta Police spokesperson Comr. Heru Julianto said on Wednesday that the victim's family refused an autopsy on the boy's body.
'They accepted the accident as bad fate,' he told The Jakarta Post.
Heru went on to say that the police had advised the sports center's management to install permanent metal bars on the pool's water circulation channels for safety reasons.
