T

he police have decided not to pursue an investigation into an accident involving a boy who was sucked into a water channel at a pool at the Grogol Petamburan Sports Center in West Jakarta on Sunday.

The body of the 12-year-old boy, identified as AL, was found on Monday morning after firefighters drained the pool and broke the circulation pipe.

Tanjung Duren Police'€™s detective unit chief Adj. Comr. Maryadi said on Wednesday that the police could not continue the case as no police report had been filed by the victim'€™s family.

'€œWe have received a letter stating that the family and sports center management have reached an amicable settlement,'€ he said, adding that the management had agreed to compensate the victim'€™s family.

West Jakarta Police spokesperson Comr. Heru Julianto said on Wednesday that the victim'€™s family refused an autopsy on the boy'€™s body.

'€œThey accepted the accident as bad fate,'€ he told The Jakarta Post.

Heru went on to say that the police had advised the sports center'€™s management to install permanent metal bars on the pool'€™s water circulation channels for safety reasons.
