he Jakarta Police are to close Jl. Sudirman, Jl Thamrin in the Monas area and streets around the State Palace between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m on Friday to make way for International Labor Day rallies.
"We will consider the traffic situation; the closure will only be applied if the traffic is at peak," said Jakarta Traffic Police education and traffic engineering sub-directorate head Adj. Comr. Warsinem on Thursday.
He said that police officers would direct vehicles that carried workers to park in areas in Central Jakarta, including in the IRTI parking lot in Monas, the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex and the Lapangan Banteng area.
"We will ask them not to park along the major roads," Warsinem said as quoted by Antara news agency, adding that the police will prepare tow trucks to tow vehicles parking along the prohibited roads.
Some 100,000 workers are expected to stage rallies in the capital city on Friday. (++++)
