akarta governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama has said the Jakarta administration will begin the long-awaited revitalization of public transportation starting June 5.
Under the revitalization program, he said, all modes of road-based public transportation, such as the Mikrolet minivans and the Kopaja and Metro Mini minibuses, would be managed under city-owned bus operator PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta).
"The revitalization will begin on June 6. Many operators have agreed. The revitalization would be beneficial for the operators because Transjakarta would pay them per kilometer so drivers would not need to ngetem," Ahok told reporters in City Hall on Thursday, referring to the drivers' habit of waiting for passengers in a certain area for quite a long time to get more money.
