T

he National Police Commission (Kompolnas) is ready to evaluate the police after the arrest of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan over alleged mistreatment, deputy Kompolnas chief Tjahjo Kumolo has said.

"We will hold a meeting to evaluate the police comprehensively and we hope Kompolnas can contribute on matters such as supervision and police leadership," Tjahjo, who is also the home minister, said in Jatinangor, West Java, as quoted by Antara news agency on Saturday evening.

"We will gather in the Puncak resort area next week. All members of Kompolnas across the country will be invited to the meeting," he said.

Police arrested Novel on Friday over alleged assault while serving as the Bengkulu Police's chief of detectives.

The police first reopened an investigation into Novel in 2012 after the KPK named then National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) chief Insp. Gen. Djoko Susilo a graft suspect.

Novel's recent arrest came soon after Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan, once a candidate for the National Police chief, was sworn in as police chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti'€™s deputy. Budi had been named a suspect by the KPK in January for alleged bribery. (hhr)
