Candy-colored spectacle of Katy's world wows Jakarta

Dazzling: : Pop singer Katty Perry dazzled more than 7,000 spectators at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in BSD city on the outskirt of Jakarta on saturday night.

Katy Perry dazzled more than 7,000 concertgoers in Jakarta on Saturday with her pop beats, candy-colored visuals and a tech-savvy stage show.

The concert, part of Perry'€™s Prismatic World Tour, took place at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in BSD city on the outskirt of Jakarta.

In the hours before the concert, Katycats, as her fans are called, swarmed the venue and lined up at the official merchandise store to buy the light-up pink-and-blue cat ears bearing Perry's name.

The concert got under way at 8 p.m., with sets from the Dolls, DJ Mia Moretti and violinist Caitlin Moe aka Margot building the party ambience filling the packed stadium with upbeat dance songs.

Cheers filled the indoor stadium at 9 p.m. as Perry, clad in a metallic illuminated dress, emerged to sing '€œRoar'€, a chart-topping single from her latest album, Prism.

"Let's go Jakarta!" the 30-year old singer-songwriter said to her fans. "Let me hear you roar!"

The crowd in BSD was, predictably, dominated by teenagers, younger fans - and mothers serving as escort.

"My 9-year old daughter loves her songs. Aside from accompanying her, I am also excited to see Katy's unique style and laser show," Wieny Devi Saraswati from South Jakarta said. (++++)

Among the Indonesian Katycats watching the Jakarta show was 44-year-old singer and presenter Tika Panggabean.

"This is my third time watching Katy, after her 2012 concert in Jakarta and F1 Singapore," Tika, who came with her family members and fellow Project Pop group members, said. "What interests me the most is her diverse songs - ranging from pop, dance, ballad to rock."

Tika's admiration of the American pop sensation was nothing compared to another fan, Eva, who tattooed the singer's name on her right hand.

"I first learned about Katy in 2008, when '€œI Kissed a Girl'€ played on the radio. My most favorite song is '€˜Firework'€™, because it keeps my spirits up and has helped me through difficult times."

The 27-year old insurance firm employee from Bandung had her dream of meeting Katy come true after winning an online quiz.

"I am awarded a chance to meet her briefly before the show. I am very nervous, don't know what to do. But definitely, I want to hug her."

After completing the hour-and-a-half show, Katy is expected to leave directly by plane for a show in Singapore, according to Sarah Deshita of concert organizer Ismaya Live. (++++)
