he Jakarta administration says it plans to build hundreds of 'herbal parks' in areas across the city to help improve the health of its residents.
'This year, it is targeted that 247 herbal parks, specifically family medicinal herbal parks, will be built in 247 subdistricts in six areas of Jakarta,' Jakarta Women and Community Empowerment and Family Planning Agency head Dien Emmawati said as quoted by Antara news agency in Jakarta on Sunday.
She said the development of the herbal parks could not only support the health of Jakartans but also expand green and open spaces in the city.
'With such purposes, parks in Jakarta will be planted with not only trees and flowers but also herbal plants as they can be useful to improve the health of the city's residents,' said Dien.
Dien said her agency had agreed to cooperate with private herbal traditional medicine company PT Bintang Toedjoe to hold a program on the use of gardens as family medicinal herbal parks.
'Through this program, we want all of Jakarta's residents to make use of their yards to plant useful herbal plants,' she said.
'As of now, 247 out of 267 subdistricts have agreed to participate in the program,' she added. (dyl/ebf)(+++)
