he Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has shown disapproval of a transitional board announced by the Youth and Sports Ministry, questioning its capacity to mobilize clubs into a competition.
'I believe the clubs, which are members of the PSSI, are not willing to compete under the [transitional] board formed by the government. They have agreed not to,' PSSI chairman La Nyalla Mattalitti said Friday evening as quoted by Antara news agency.
Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi earlier announced the 17-member transitional board, which contained members from various backgrounds ' mayors, state officials, military officers, soccer activists, businesspeople and celebrities.
The board, formed in the wake of an impasse between the ministry and the PSSI, is tasked with managing soccer competitions until a new PSSI board is formed.
However, it looks unlikely that the interim board will be able to carry out its job given recent developments in which PT Liga Indonesia as the league operator and representatives of Indonesian Super League (ISL) and Premier Division clubs showed a disinclination to compete under the supervision of the transitional board.
Soccer activities across the country are currently in a lull, following the PSSI's decision to stop all competitions last week to protest the ministry's move on April 17 to suspend the national soccer association, which was blamed for not excluding Persebaya Surabaya and Arema Indonesia from the ISL as recommended by the ministry-sanctioned Indonesian Professional Sports Body (BOPI).
The world soccer governing body FIFA has recently taken part in this disagreement by sending a letter, warning the ministry about 'meddling in PSSI affairs' and threatening a sanction if the conflict was not settled by May 29.
