he Depok administration plans to reconstruct a six-hectare public forest park (Tahura) named Cagar Alam Depok, to be located in Pancoranmas district, next year. The park is intended to be a tourism site and city park.
The allocated budget for the reconstruction is Rp 20 billion (US$1.5 million) and the construction is planned to be completed in three years.
Depok Environment Agency head Wijayanto said on Sunday that the park would be a place for education, recreation as well as functioning as 'the city's lungs'.
'We will build jogging tracks and rearrange vegetation by adding 23 new plant species to the existing 80,' he said as quoted by tempo.co, adding that planting and maintenance activities would be carried out in the first two months in a preliminary phase.
Wijayanto said the Depok administration was targeting the creation of 20,000 hectares of green open space or 30 percent of the total city's area. Currently, the city had only 16.63 percent of open space.
'We estimate to achieve the target by 2030, two years earlier than the determined period,' he said.
