Singaporean man, identified as Tan Shih Cheng, 43, was found dead in a hotel bathroom on Saturday afternoon in Batam, Riau Islands province, allegedly after having committed suicide.
Smoke from the remnants of a fire was found in the room. The man was alleged to have killed himself by inhaling the smoke. So far the motive behind the alleged suicide remains unclear.
Batam, Rempang and Galang (Barelang) City Police chief Sr. Comr. Asep Safrudin said that the man was estimated to have been dead for two days.
'We found no signs of violence on his body. His belongings are also still intact,' Asep said, on Saturday.
Asep said that apart from the remains of a fire, the police's investigative team also found that the bathroom's door and window had been sealed with duct tape, apparently to prevent the smoke from escaping.
