he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is still investigating free pilgrimage packages for journalists provided by the Religious Affairs Ministry in 2012-2013.
KPK spokeswoman Priharsa Nugraha said on Tuesday that the journalists receiving the free pilgrimage packages had been summoned as witnesses in the graft case of former religious affairs minister Suryadharma Ali.
'They [the journalists] were questioned on whether they received the free pilgrimage packages,' kompas.com quoted her as saying.
Priharsa explained that the journalists were also questioned regarding their departure and whether they used the remaining quota from the ministry or their pilgrimage was covered by their employers.
'If they took part in the pilgrimage package they were questioned on whether they used the pilgrimage quota from the national pilgrimage committee or whether they covered the pilgrimage activities at the expense of their own media companies,' she said.
Suryadharma has been held a suspect in connection with the alleged use of pilgrimage down-payments from registered pilgrims, to cover free pilgrimage packages for a number of public officials and their family members in 2012 and 2013.
Suryadharma is also accused of marking-up catering and transportation fees for all pilgrims. (rms) (++++)
