he regent of Sarmi in Papua, Mesak Manibor, was arrested on Thursday by the Attorney General'€™s Office (AGO) for the alleged embezzlement of Rp 2.9 billion from the regent'€™s official residence rehabilitation project from 2012 '€“ 2013.

Mesak was arrested after failing to answer a summons and resisting police arrest.

Papua Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Patrige Renwarin said the suspect was arrested at his official residence early on Thursday.

'€œThe AGO team and police took the suspect to the provincial police'€™s detention center,'€ he said.
