orruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutors have rejected a request for an exception to a US$334,862 gratification charge against former Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry secretary-general Waryono Karyono.
'We don't agree with the request for an exception filed by the suspect's legal team, which claims that our charge does not explain the exact times of the payment of the gratification. This matter is clearly explained in the dossier,' said KPK prosecutor Fitroh Nurcahyanto as quoted by Antara.
He was speaking during a court hearing in which the prosecution responded to the graft suspect's request for an exception at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday.
In a hearing on May 13, KPK prosecutors revealed that Waryono had accepted two gratification payments, comprising $284,862 and $50,000, but he did not report them to the anti-graft body.
'In our explanation, it is clear that the suspect accepted $284,862 and $50,000 in gratification on May 28, 2013, and June 12, 2013, respectively,' said Fitroh.
In the case dossier, the KPK prosecution team said Waryono kept the $284,862 in a bag in an office at his workplace.
It has been alleged that on June 12, 2013, Waryono accepted $50,000 in cash from former Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKKMigas) chief Rudi Rubiandini, who placed it in a paper bag and delivered it to him through his colleague Hermawan. Waryono then reportedly asked the ministry's finance bureau head Didi Dwi Sutrisnohadi to keep the money in the latter's office.
Fitroh also said the prosecutor did not agree with the exception requested by the suspect's legal team, which claimed that the case dossier did not explain the purpose of the gratification payments. (ebf)(+++)
