Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama said it was "no surprise" that old Transjakarta buses were faulty and often caught fire.
On Wednesday at noon, a grey Transjakarta bus caught fire near the Senen bus stop in Central Jakarta, injuring seven people. The bus was heading to Pulogadung terminal in East Jakarta.
Ahok said that the Transjakarta buses, which were procured by the city administration several years ago, were of low quality, and were easily damaged. He went on to say that it was suspicious that buses of such low quality passed the bidding process in the city administration in the past.
"Those buses are of low quality, so of course they easily catch fire. That is why in the future we want Scania and Mercedes-Benz buses," Ahok said.(+++)
