overnor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama claims that officials have yet to understand the meaning of the spirit of National Awakening Day and have not fully committed themselves to the nation.

'€œ[Officials] memorize the National Awakening song, but do not live up to it. Many officials are corrupt,'€ Ahok said after a National Awakening Day ceremony at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.

He was referring to the song '€œBagimu Negeri'€ (To You, My Country), which is sung to commemorate National Awakening Day every May 20.

In the song, Ahok said, one dedicated and promised to fully serve the country with body and soul.

'€œYou don'€™t need to dedicate your body and soul [as literally written in the song]; just don'€™t be corrupt, serve residents well and work during work hours. Officials get paid a lot but most still work poorly,'€ he said.
