Jokowi recruits women to select KPK leader hopefuls

F

ollowing a polemic over two controversial members mooted to head up a committee to select Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leaders, President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo announced on Thursday a nine-member committee.

All nine members of the committee are women.

The President said the selection committee was expected to nominate KPK leader hopefuls with high integrity, to replace current KPK leaders who end their term of office in December.

'€œI hope selected commissioner hopefuls will have complete capability to strengthen the commission and improve the synergy between the commission and other law enforcement institutions in building an effective corruption eradication and prevention system,'€ kompas.com quoted him as saying at Halim Perdanakusumah Airport in East Jakarta.

Jokowi was departing on a working visit to Malang in East Java.

The President declined to answer questions on why all selection committee members were women.

Previously, a list of nine names, all male, circulated among the public, sparking strong criticism from numerous sides, including NGOs.

Among the nine people previously named were constitutional law expert Margarito Kamis and law expert Romli Atmasasmita, both who acted as expert witnesses to testify against the government during pretrial petition hearings filed by suspended police chief hopeful Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan at the South Jakarta District Court.

The nine members of the selection committee are:

1.Destri Damayanti, economist (commission chairwoman)

2.Enny Nurbaningsih, constitutional law expert (deputy chairperson)

3.Criminal law expert Harkristuti Harkrinsowo,

4.IT expert Betty alisjahbana,

5.Criminal law expert Yenti Garnasih,

6.Psychologist Supra Wimbarti,

7.Public administration expert Natalia Subagyo,

8.Law expert Diani Sadiawati

9.Sociologist Meuthia Ganie Rochman. (rms)
