ndonesia should be able to increase the number of tourists visiting its shores by 4 million, 10 percent of the tourists traveling within ASEAN every year, following the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) at the end of the year, an official says.
The secretary to the director general of ASEAN cooperation, I Gede Ngurah Swajaya, said on Thursday that 40 million people from ASEAN countries traveled within the region.
"Indonesia has plenty of tourist destinations; we should be able to attract 10 percent of the tourists, even more" he said during a seminar on the AEC in Batam.
Swajaya said the implementation of the AEC, when travel would increase, should become a momentum to attract tourists to Indonesia.(+++)
