The Jakarta administration will record tenants of all apartments in a move to contain rampant prostitution in the capital city.
The head of the Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Agency, Edison Sianturi, said here on Friday that apartment tenants were expected to cooperate with the personnel tasked with recording them.
'The recording is aimed at preventing any sides and persons from using apartments as prostitution sites. There will be resistance from tenants, but it has to be done for the good of all. We have the authority to do so, as stipulated in the Population Administration Law,' he said as quoted by kompas.com.
Edison said that besides recording apartment tenants, the move was also aimed at facilitating apartment dwellers to form neighborhood units and their functionaries, who were expected to help maintain security and public order at apartment complexes. (rms)
