oney-laundering expert Yenti Ganarsih says the next leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) should be given immunity to prevent them from being criminalized during their tenures.
'Let them complete their terms in office. They should be given immunity for any wrongdoings committed before they joined the commission. They should not be disrupted [in their work]. Let them complete their tasks until the end of their tenures. But if they abuse their power during their tenures, they should be arrested,' kompas.com quoted her as saying on Friday.
Yenti, also member of the committee tasked by the President to select KPK leader hopefuls, made the statement in reference to the criminalization of previous KPK leaders, such as Antasari, Bibit Samad Rianto, Chandra Hamzah, Abraham Samad and Bambang Widjojanto.
She pointed out that the cases of Bibit and Chandra had been dropped, while Abraham and Bambang remained suspects.
Yenti said she would maintain the selection committee's independence and objectiveness in selecting commission leaders hopefuls.(rms)(++++)
